Chinese Medical Dietary Counseling

In Chinese Medicine, proper diet is regarded as the foundation of health. An ancient Chinese doctor said when a person is sick, the doctor should first regulate the patient's diet and lifestyle. Good dietary practices are self-empowering and lay the groundwork for long term health and healing.

Why Dietary Counseling?
A healthy diet provides two benefits. First, it is the foundation of daily health and future disease prevention. Second, a diet custom-tailored for you, based on your diagnosed TCM patterns, will address any current symptoms or disease processes that may be burdening you.

What type of food will I have to eat? The dietary guidelines provided during a counseling session will be based on the principles and logic of Traditional Chinese Medicine, universally applicable, and adaptable to any culture. Your recommended diet will consist of foods you know, chosen for their energetic nature and therapeutic value.

What happens during a counseling session?
A counseling session lasts approximately 90 minutes and includes a full review of your medical history and the current status of your health. Based on the information gathered in this review, a diagnosis of your TCM patterns will be made, and a detailed explanation of your patterns provided. Your recommended dietary guidelines will specifically address your TCM patterns.

What will I go home with? At the end of the session you will be provided with a printed Dietary Plan. It will show what foods to emphasize in your diet and what to avoid or minimize. The proper use of herbs, spices, oils, beverages, supplements, and teas will also be covered. Your plan will also include a small number of acupressure points that you may massage at home, as well as other do-it-yourself home therapies.
